Ropemaking has been a cherished craft in the Yorkshire Dales for generations, it is woven into the fabric of local heritage.
When Outhwaites, the last traditional ropemakers in the area, closed its doors in 2022, it marked the end of an era.
But from that ending came a new beginning.
Caroline, the founder of Askrigg Ropemakers, had worked at Outhwaites and was made redundant when the business shut down.
Refusing to let the tradition fade, she took the bold step of purchasing the original equipment to continue the craft she loved.
Today, Askrigg Ropemakers proudly keeps the spirit of traditional ropemaking alive—right in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales.
